The History of 12 Days of Christmas
DATE: 12/18/2008 01:48:40 / MOOD: Happy

The History of 12 Days of Christmas

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not
permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this
carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning:
the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their
church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which
the children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

Two turtle doves were the Old and NewTestaments.

Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke & John.

The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first
five books of the Old Testament.

The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the
Holy Spirit-Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership,
and Mercy.

The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit -
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and
Self Control.

The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful
disciples.

The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of
belief in the Apostles' Creed.

So that's your history for today. May God grant you peace and
happiness throughout this Christmas Season.

Water Safety Tips for Kids
DATE: 11/07/2008 02:55:24 / MOOD: Happy

Water Safety Tips for Kids

  • One of the best
ways to stay safe from water is to learn swimming. However, one should
    follow proper instructions while swimming.
  • Make sure the
children are supervised by a lifeguard while swimming.
  • Children should
take precautions and wear a proper personal floatation device, when in or
    around water.
  • Observe the sign
posts, such as dangerous, too cold, too far from safety, too much sun, too
much strenuous activity, etc, quite carefully.
  • Children should
swim in water that is less than chest deep.
  • Keep yourself
informed about the water environment and its potential hazards. The more
informed you are, the safer you will be.
  • While the kids are
learning swimming, they should also be taught how to prevent, recognize
    and respond to emergencies.
  • The kids should
always stay within supervision. Keep them within an arm's reach when they
are around standing water at home. This can include buckets, bathtubs,
    toilets and spas.
  • Be vigilant while
kids are having bath. Be personally present and do not ask older siblings
to supervise the younger ones, around standing water.
  • Baby bath seats are
not a safety device and should never substitute for adult supervision.
  • Make sure you drain
the water from the bathtub immediately after use.
  • Electrical
appliances such as blow dryers and radios should not be placed near sinks
and tubs. When kids are around, they should be strictly kept out of their
    reach.
  • Ensure that
children remain at a safe distance from water heater as well as hot water,
to prevent them from the risk of burns and scalds.
  • While bathing
children, fill cold water first and then add warm water.
  • The bathroom doors
of your house should be properly closed and door knob should be covered,
to prevent children from accessing bathrooms.
  • Make use of toilet
seat locks and keep toilet lids shut to reduce the risk of any accident.
  • Empty all buckets
immediately after use and secure them upside down.
  • Large buckets and
tubs should be kept out of children's reach.

    have a nice day
