Practical
tips to improve your mood

Stop Dieting!
Losing
too much weight too quickly may result in a weight loss that is initially
impressive but, before you know it, progress may start to slow down, stop and
be overtaken by weight gain.
A lot of any initial weight loss is water and the body's metabolism responds to
a quick weight loss by slowing down in an attempt to adapt to this lower energy
intake.
It is possible that this slower metabolic rate will be accompanied by mental
changes in depression.
Dieting puts a lot of stress on an individual and it demands a lot of self
control. This in turn results in disturbances in our emotions and can change
how we think and feel about ourselves. Adopting a healthy eating regime is the
best way to prevent the pitfalls of stringent dieting and the best way to
brighten your outlook for the long term.

Learn the art of distraction
When you feel that moment coming on when you just 'have to have something', and
that ‘something’ is in the form of a typical naughty but nice craving, try the
following:

Fight that urge to binge on the nearest junk
foods - grab a piece of fruit or a yoghurt!

Go for a walk - take the children if
necessary

Put some music on

Drink a glass of water - often thirst and
hunger signals become muddled

Run yourself a bath and take time out

Inspire yourself - treat yourself to a
healthy food magazine

Curl up with a gripping novel and be whisked
away into another world.

Make long-term changes to your
lifestyle instead of crash dieting

We know how difficult it can be to eat well
when you're juggling one hundred and one tasks in any given day. But there are
some changes you can make to your lifestyle which aren't short-term fixes -
they will help you to really appreciate the benefits of taking the time out to
prepare and enjoy your food.

Things like lowering your alchohol
consumption and regulating your blood sugars by eating more slow-release carbs
rather than quick-fix sugar-laden snacks will make you look and feel so much
better. Here are some more general tips:

Don't forget to eat breakfast and make it
substantial. Try our porridge recipe

Eat slowly - don't bolt down your meals

Eat regularly - don't leave it so long
between meals that you get ravenous. Even those of us with the best willpower
will dive for the biscuits if we get to this state

If mealtimes are a mad rush and you always
feel that your time is spent seeing to the children or to your husband, try
preparing yourself something the night before and save it for a quiet moment

Educate yourself about healthy eating and
try to re-train the way you eat. You may soon begin to cut down or cut out
sugary foods altogether

Try shopping on-line. This helps avoid the
temptation of buying the types of foods that bring your mood down

Plan ahead and stock up on mood boosters.
Create a tin of healthy snacks eg. dried fruit bars, nuts/seeds. Stock up on
tins of oily fish

Snack on foods with a low Glycaemic Index
(GI) that release their energy slowly (see 'Foods that boost your mood'
section)

Experiment with new recipes – you may grow to love eating this
way. Involve the kids and make home-made pizzas instead of buying the frozen
type, for example. They will love choosing and putting on their own
toppings.

Remember!

Enjoy what you eat and don’t deny yourself that occasional
treat. Be kind to yourself – you deserve it! have a nice day

Baby Health Care: Toddlers

		Baby
Health Care: Toddlers

Taking care
of your toddler may seem simpler in some respects than taking care of a newborn
simply because he can do so many more things on his own. However, there are
still several things you should keep in mind when taking care of your toddler's
health.

Feeding

You
probably began introducing solid foods when your baby was between four and six
months of age. Hopefully, you waited a few days before introducing each new
food. While you still need to be aware of the risk of food allergies, you need
to focus more on the risk of your toddler putting something in his mouth that
could be a choking hazard. Be sure you steer clear of giving your child grapes,
hard candy, popcorn, hotdogs, nuts, etc., and watch out for small objects that
he can access.

Skin Care

Your
toddler still may suffer from diaper rashes occasionally, but because she is
more mobile, she is likely more at risk of sunburns. Make sure you apply a baby
sunscreen of at least 30 SPF to protect her delicate skin.

Diapering

Once you
begin potty training your toddler, there are a variety of products available to
make the job a little easier. Instead of diapers, you might want to use
disposable training pants that are easy to pull up and down. Your toddler may
love the novelty of being in control herself!

Sleeping

Although
your toddler may have slept through the night for several months, he may now be
waking at night and crying for you. He will have to learn to settle himself
back to sleep, and he can't do this if you run to his bedside every time he
cries. Instead, give him a chance to settle himself back to sleep on his own
before you check on him.

Illness

Toddlers
are notorious for feeling fine one second and running a full-blown fever the
next. You should pay attention to your child's temperature, of course, but you
should pay even more attention to how she acts. If she is whiney and listless,
she may be sicker than her temperature indicates. Don't hesitate to call your
doctor. have a nice day

1/2 cup of unsalted butter, room temperature1 cup of sugar1 egg, room temperature1 cup of mashed bananas (about 2 ½ large
bananas)1 teaspoon of baking soda2 cups of flourpinch of salt1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon1/2 teaspoon of ground mace or nutmeg1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves1 cup of pecans (walnuts and chocolate chips
     are fine alternatives)

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

		BRAIN
DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level.
This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain
degeneration.

2. Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental
power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing
malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air
decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain
efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will
accelerate the death of brain cells.
7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide
and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness
of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation
thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brainHave a good day

How To Get Your Child To Sleep Through The Night

		How To Get
Your Child To Sleep Through The Night

Some good
tips on how to get your child to sleep through the night.

A child that wakes frequently during the night disrupts the entire household.
It doesn't matter if your little insomniac is an infant, a toddler, or an older
child; frequent sleep interruptions are unhealthy. Intervention is necessary.

Make
Sleep a Priority

Most children under the age of 12 need 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night. If your
child does not get adequate rest, sleeping disorders quickly develop. One way
to prevent issues with sleep patterns is to make sleep a priority.

• Decrease physical and mental stimulation as bedtime approaches.

• Set a bedtime and stick to it. Do not alter the bedtime on the weekends or as
a special reward.

• If your child appears tired during the day, allow them to nap for a few
minutes until they establish a healthy sleep pattern.

• A daily routine that includes regular exercise and a set start time for each
day encourages healthy sleep habits.

Preparing
for Bedtime

A bedtime routine helps your child gear down for the evening.

• Decrease the amount of fluid consumed two hours before bedtime to eliminate
potty-breaks during the night. Avoid caffeine and sugar at least five hours
before bed as well.

• Encourage your child to choose a stuffed animal or blanket to take to bed
every evening for comfort.

• Play soothing music, watch a few minutes of non-stimulating television in the
evening, or read a book at bedtime. have a nice day

Household Hints and Tips

		Household Hints and Tips

Removing red wine stains.
Did you know, that you can remove red wine stains with
soda water?
My daughter had tried unsuccessfully to wash red wine out of her favorite pale
blue cashmere jumper.
Even a week later I was still able to remove the red wine stain by gently
squeezing it in just good club soda water. It looked like new.

Removing candle wax from carpet or tablecloth.
You need a hot iron and blotting paper.
Scrape as much wax off as possible.
Place the blotting paper on top of the hardened wax and place the hot iron on
top of it. Move the blotting paper around to absorb the melting wax.
Carry on until it all has been removed, but being careful not to scorch the
fabric underneath.

Removing chewing gum.
Put ice cubes into a plastic bag, place on top the chewing
gum to harden it and slowly scrape the gum off.

Removing tar.
Soften the tar with turpentine or unsalted butter, then
treat afterwards with petrol and wash the usual way.
It will take a few washes to completely come out.

Removing rust.
Rub into fabric lemon juice, sprinkle salt on top and
leave to rest for at least an hour. Rinse and wash in the normal way. Or
leave soaking for a while in a solution of water and glycerin.

Removing coffee stains.
Dab the stain with glycerin, then rinse in cold water.
Wash the normal way.

Removing soot from carpet.
Using the nozzle attachment .of the vacuum
cleaner clean most of it up.
Try not to rub the soot into the carpet. Then sprinkle talcum powder over
it and brush in. Vacuum as normal.

Removing ketchup from carpet.
Carefully remove excess from carpet, then rub glycerin
into the stain. Sponge with warm water trying not to wet the carpet to
much.

Removing blueberry stains.
Soak the fabric for long time in sour milk rinse and wash
warm as normal.

Removing raspberry and redcurrant stains.
Dab the stain with lemon juice, rinse in warm water.
Wash in normal way.

House smells of cooking, dog, etc.
Next time you vacuum, add a cotton wool ball soaked with a
few drops of aromatherapy oil, like geranium or lavender into your vacuum
cleaner bag. The smell will be gone and a beautiful scent has been added.

Window, mirror and glass cleaning.
Have no leather or window cloth to add shine?
Wash windows or mirror with warm water and a drop of vinegar. Wipe
with crunched up newspaper until dry and shiny.

15 minutes to make home sparkle.
Use the cheater guide: Polish with beeswax 1 or 2 pieces of
furniture and bring to a shine, tidy as much away as possible, plump your
cushions up, flick your duster around. The smell of the beeswax make your
visitors believe that you have been cleaning all day.

Ice and lemon supplied in one go.
Slice unwaxed lemons thinly and cut into quarters, put in ice trays with little
water. Ice and lemon supplied in one go.

Scratches on dark
wood furniture.
Make a paste from instant coffee and water.
Rub into the scratches, then wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
Lily Pollen stains.
Gently dab a cello tape onto the stain.
The pollen will stick to the tape.
Do not rub. have a nice day

Five Food For Healthier Skin

		Five Food For Healthier Skin

Here are a few nutritional standouts that make particularly important
contributions to strong, glowing skin:
1. Fish: Fatty fish like
salmon, tilapia, and cod are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. And that's a good
thing, because our bodies cannot produce those essential lipids naturally. By
adding omega-3s to your diet, though, you can bolster your skin barrier - that
is, the layer of lipids that holds onto moisture and keeps irritants out.
There is even evidence that the skin-strengthening effects of omega-3s can
improve chronic skin conditions like rosacea and atopic dermatitis, but more
research is necessary to confirm that link.
Furthermore, many types of fish (like, once again, salmon and cod) are rich in
vitamin D - as dermatologists increasingly emphasize sun avoidance, we also
need to emphasize the importance of finding other sources of this vitamin,
which is produced during sun exposure.
Don't eat fish? Many eggs are now fortified with omega-3 fatty acids, and plant
sources include flax seed and flax seed oil, walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts.
And a daily vitamin D supplement is a good idea for vegans and meat-eaters
alike.
2. Green
Tea: It's inexpensive, easy to add to your routine, and one of the
best-researched and most powerful antioxidants around. That's why green tea is
my go-to antioxidant: I drink at least three cups a day to fight aging and
inflammation. Some studies even suggest that the antioxidants in green tea
reduce one's risk of skin cancer. So put down that soda and start drinking your
way to healthier skin!
3. Broccoli: Rich in vitamins A,
C, and K (among many other nutrients), this veggie does more than its fair
share of nutritional work. Vitamin A decreases oil production, vitamin C is a
powerful antioxidant, and vitamin K can help prevent bruises. So whatever ails
you, this green wonder food might be just what the doctor ordered.
4. Safflower
or Sunflower Oil: Omega-3s get a lot more talk, but omega-6 fatty acids -
like the linoleic acid in these two oils - are also important for healthy skin.
Like omega-3s, they help prevent dry skin and inflammation; they're also
essential for the formation of prostaglandins, hormones that keep all the cells
of the body functioning well.
While many diets are actually quite high in omega-6s - sometimes even too high
- the key is to get the good ones and not unhealthy versions, like hydrogenated
oils. So try sautéing your salmon or broccoli in a little safflower or
sunflower oil and double those skin-soothing benefits!
5. Almonds: When
it comes to boosting skin's defenses against aging, inflammation, and even skin
cancer, antioxidants are so important that I'm going to add another to my list:
A handful of almonds every day boosts your levels of vitamin E, one of the most
important antioxidants for skin health. Studies also suggest that consuming
vitamin E orally can increase the levels of this moisturizing vitamin on your
skin's surface - great news for anyone prone to dry skin.

Have a nice day

White Chocolate Green Tea Ice Cream

White Chocolate Green Tea Ice Cream

INGREDIENTS:

8 ounces high quality white chocolate, chopped
into 1/2-inch pieces 2 cups light cream 1 cup heavy cream 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 5 large egg yolks, at room temperature 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar 2 tablespoons matcha powder or Stash Iced
     Green Tea Powder

Directions:
Makes 1 quart

1. Place the
white chocolate pieces in a large heatproof bowl. Set aside.

2. Combine
the light cream, heavy cream, and vanilla extract in a medium-size saucepan.
Over medium heat, bring the mixture just to a boil, stirring constantly.

Remove from
the heat and set aside.

3. In a large
bowl, whisk the yolks until well blended. In a small bowl, blend the brown
sugar with the matcha powder or Stash Iced Green Tea Powder until there are no
green streaks, then whisk the sugar mixture into the egg yolks, blending well.

4. Add 1/4
cup of the hot cream mixture to the egg mixture, whisking vigorously. Add
another 1/4 cup and whisk again. Carefully pour this mixture back into the
saucepan, mix well, and cook over medium heat until the custard is thick enough
to coat the back of a spoon, about 170 degrees fahrenheit. Do not boil, or the
custard will curdle.

5. Remove the
custard from the heat and strain through a fine-mesh strainer into the bowl of
chopped white chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted, then
let the custard cool at room temperature for 15 minutes.

6. Cover the custard
and chill in the refrigerator for 6 hours or overnight. Freeze in an ice cream
machine according to the manufacturer's instructions. Transfer the ice cream to
an airtight container and place in the freezer until firm, at least 8 hours.
Remove from the freezer 20 mintues before serving.
